We’re excited to launch Daring Cities 2025, the sixth edition of this annual event co-convened by ICLEI and the Federal City of Bonn, Germany. As we move toward COP30 in Belém, Brazil, Daring Cities 2025 will serve as a pivotal platform for local and regional governments to influence global climate negotiations.
Under the theme “Powering collective action to respond to the climate emergency,” Daring Cities 2024, co-convened by ICLEI and the Federal City of Bonn, Germany, celebrated its fifth edition as a pivotal platform for local and regional leaders championing multilevel and collective climate action.
ICLEI leaders welcomed the first climate finance agreement in 15 years, tripling the current investment. However, they emphasize that it still falls shorts of what's needed for global climate action and adaptation
The 8th Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities, an official parallel event to CBD COP16, will take place on 26 October 2024 in the Blue Zone at the CBD COP in Cali, Colombia, and is part of a 3-day program from 25 to 27 October.
The Multilevel Action & Urbanization Pavilion serves as the global stage for the city and region climate agenda during COP29. The Pavilion will bring into focus not only the challenges and needs, but also the accomplishments and commitments of local and subnational actors on climate action.

ICLEI Japan was founded in 1993 as one of the country offices of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, serving to build and enhance the local governments’ network in Japan. ICLEI Japan supports its member cities in leading local initiatives, promoting global collaboration to achieve regional and global sustainability in partnership with other ICLEI offices and partner organizations.

Yokohama has been a pioneer among other cities in taking measures to combat global warming, such as saving electricity, implementing energy efficiency measures, and expanding the use of renewable energy.
In January 2023, the Yokohama City Action Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures was revised, setting the 2030 greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 50% (compared to 2013 levels) and working towards virtually zero greenhouse gas emissions in 2050. To achieve this goal, an ‘All Yokohama’ chain of measures against global warming is being implemented, including the introduction of new technologies in cooperation with businesses, the smart use of renewable energy in collaboration with other local governments, and utilizing citizen-driven activities.
In 2027, the international horticultural exposition, GREEN x EXPO 2027, will be held in Yokohama. GREEN x EXPO 2027 aims to promote the international culture of horticulture, a life full of flowers and greenery, and to contribute to the creation of regional and economic and the resolution of social issues.
Associate Partnership is available to non-governmental organizations, universities, state and national government agencies and not-for-profit research institutions. The purpose of Associate Partnership is to facilitate dialogues between local governments and these partners, to provide knowledge transfer in line with ICLEI’s Mission and Charter, and an avenue for which partners can support ICLEI’s work and mandate.
