Virtual International Forum on Low Carbon Cities 2021
The “International Forum on Low Carbon Cities” was held on 23-24 December, which collaboration with Incheon Climate and Environment Research Centre, ICLEI East Asia and Innovative Green Development Program and Green Climate Fund.
While many East Asian cities have already initiated Low Carbon City (LCC) development policies and strategies to reduce GHG emissions, but more cities must take local actions to carbon neutrality following to the targets (NDCs) announced by their governments.
The forum brought together local governments, international organizations, regional city networks, experts and other stakeholders to share experiences and knowledge, and discuss key issues related to scaling up city-level climate actions.
Kitakyushu City and Toyama City participated at the session on first day, 23th.
Kitakyushu City took part in the session “Cities for Achieving Carbon Neutrality” and presented its initiatives such as the creation of wind power bases, renewable energy for public facilities, EV public vehicle sharing with local companies, partnerships with Asian countries, and introduced the Kitakyushu City’s Green Growth Strategy for 2030 and 2050.
Toyama City took part in the session “Innovative Solutions for Low Carbon Cities (Mobility and infrastructure)” and introduced the basic policy of urban development and the three pillars of The Compact City Strategy of Toyama City.
Mr. Togo Uchida, Executive Director of ICLEI Japan, spoke at the session “Stakeholders Engagement for Inclusive and Participatory Climate Action” on 24th, second day of the forum, introducing stakeholder engagement in Japan and climate change action in the region, and the domino effect of decarbonization.
