ICLEI’s Race-to-Zero Dialogues

Important at COP26 with the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the High-Level Climate Champion of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the Convention (COP26) on “Environment Day” on June 5, 2020. The Roles (appointed by the British Government) have announced the Climate Ambition Alliance’s Race to Zero campaign aimed at promoting non-governmental activities. As of June, the campaign has 449 cities, 21 regions, 995 companies, 38 investors, and 505 universities. ICLEI – The Council for Sustainable Cities and Regions has been supporting the campaign as a core partner on behalf of the municipal network since COP25 in December 2019.
On July 29, ICLEI will share its commitment and action experience with representatives of cities and regions in Europe, Japan, South Korea and Australia, along with leaders leading the effort towards decarbonization, the Race to Zero Dialogue. has been held.
On Part 1: High-Level Session, Minister of the Environment Shinjiro Koizumi expressed his commitment to decarbonization and zero-carbon city through a video message.
And then, Governor Shuichi Abe and Mayor of Saitama Hayato Shimizu touched on the intensifying natural disasters and sent a message that they would like to take the initiative in achieving zero carbon, which was highly evaluated by other speakers. it was done.
On Part 2: Technical Session, from ICLEI Japan, Mr. Uchida reported on how many local governments in Japan reached the zero-carbon declaration, as well as from Turku, Finland and ICLEI Oceania. There were reports on the advanced efforts of local governments, actions toward zero carbon, and progress so far.
Finally, ICLEI World Secretariat shared ICLEI’s vision, concept and schedule for Daring Cities 2020, which will be held online from October 7th to 28th this year.
