[Tokyo Metropolitan Government] Climate Crisis Action Movement “TIME TO ACT” Climate Action Forum was held
On 14th of October, 2021, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government held an online international conference, “Time to Act: Climate Action Forum”. The theme was “Accelerating Efforts toward the Carbon Emissions in Half by 2030”. The forum discussed and disseminated to the world the growing threat of the climate crisis and specific actions to confront it.
The high-level session was attended by Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, Pesident of World Economic Forum, Borge Brende, British Ambassador to Japan, Julia Longbottom CMG and Representative, Japan Climate Initiative, Takejiro Sueyoshi, the leaders of major cities and various sectors who are making progressive efforts to tackle climate change. Also, Togo Uchida, Executive Director of ICLEI Japan, the support of this event, was moderated the session. Governor Koike introduced that in order to achieve the Zero Emission Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will consider further strengthening and expanding its existing ordinance system, such as the Cap-and-Trade Program, as well as requiring the installation of solar power generation equipment in a certain newly constructed home.
The 2 workshops that followed the high-level session focused on the themes of “Hydrogen” and “Sustainable Buildings”, and held panel discussions by leading figures from foreign cities and companies.
It’s “Time to Act” towards the Carbon Emission in Half by 2030. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will accelerate its climate action toward decarbonization.
