Participated the ‘Roundtable Discussion: In Decarbonization from A Sewerage Perspective- Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050’
The Japan Sewage Works Association organized a roundtable discussion on 2 June, in which JO participated together with Yokohama.
JO commented that in order for municipalities to achieve zero carbon, it is important to promote decarbonization efforts in the sewerage sector, which is a source of not only carbon dioxide but also methane and dinitrogen monoxide (nitrous oxide), which have a higher greenhouse effect.
By FY2030, Yokohama introduced concrete initiatives for decarbonization in the sewerage sector, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions from sewage treatment, upgrading sludge incinerators, continuing to improve the efficiency of equipment, and utilizing renewable energy.
