An inception workshop on JCM was held in Jakarta City

An inception workshop on JCM was held in Jakarta City, targeted at local municipalities

February 24, 2015 (Tue.), 9:00 – 16:00

Place: Jakarta City (Indonesia)

Participants: About 40 (16 municipalities in the local area and experts)

Indonesia is the most advanced country in JCM projects with Japan. In order to further promote the participation of municipalities in projects such as large-scale feasibility study projects, a workshop was held for development staff of local municipalities; especially in the field of waste and water management, transportation and energy conservation; to explain the JCM system and its potential for use. The morning session provided an overview of climate change adaptation initiatives in Indonesia, including their significance and current state, described schemes of JCM and JICA, and introduced examples of cooperation between municipalities that utilized the JCM scheme (e.g. Surabaya and Kitakyushu, Bangkok and Yokohama). In the afternoon, three breakout sessions (waste management, water management, and transportation and energy conservation) were held, where participants discussed the current problems, solutions and challenges in implementing such solutions. They also exchanged opinions on potential for mutual cooperation among Indonesian municipalities, collaboration between Indonesian and Japanese municipalities, as well as utilization possibility of JCM. The final session consisted of presentations by each of the three groups, confirmation of basic requirements for JCM projects, Q&A, and confirmation of the roles of each relevant organization to implement low-carbon strategies.
