Inductees of the 15th Earth Hall of Fame KYOTO
The Earth Hall of Fame KYOTO is named after Kyoto, the birthplace of the Kyoto Protocol, and honors those who have made significant contributions to the preservation of the global environment in the world for future generations. The three inductees of the 15th Earth Hall of Fame KYOTO have been selected and the award ceremony and forum will be held on 14 October 2024 at the Kyoto International Conference Center.
15th Inductees
Mikiko KAINUMA (Born in 1950), Japan
(Research Advisor, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies: IGES)
Following the 2°C target (the effort target is 1.5°C) agreed in the Paris Agreement, the IPCC’s 1.5°C Special Report published in 2018, showed a significant difference in the impact of 2°C and 1.5°C temperature rise. As one of the authors, Mikiko Kainuma disseminated the findings that strengthened the long-term target of the Paris Agreement from 2°C to 1.5°C.
Partha Dasgupta (Born in 1942), UK
(Frank Ramsey Emeritus Professor at the University of Cambridge)
Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta has completed The Economics of Biodiversity, a 40-year research project aimed at developing economics from the links between population, consumption and the biosphere. Other publications include ‘Economics Theory and Exhaustible Resources’, which provides guidance on new environmental economics.
Tetsu YAMAGISHI (Born in 1939), Japan
(Honorary Advisor, Yamashina Institute for Ornithology)
Tetsu Yamagishi has been involved in research on the speciation of the Vanga Curvitostris, a species of bird in the Republic of Madagascar, and has contributed to the understanding of the formation of biodiversity on the island through the publication and donation of a bilingual bird field guide to children in Republic of Madagascar. He has also made a significant contribution to the development of ‘behavioural ecology’ at home and abroad, including the training of many researchers in the study of bird breeding behaviour.
