Successfully Handed over Nagano Declaration to Environment Minister of Japan
The G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth was held in Karuizawa, Nagano, June 15 to 16, 2019.
Taking this opportunity, Nagano Prefecture and ICLEI Japan invited the local governments and organizations over the world to endorse the “Nagano Declaration” as a framework to create a sustainable society through enhancing local actions on SDGs including measures on climate actions, biodiversity preservation, and circular economy.
Since its release, within two weeks, the declaration attracted many interest and the endorsement list went up to 119, and on June 14, Mr. Abe Shuichi, Governor of Nagano Prefecture together with Prof. Hamanaka Hironori, Chair of ICLEI Japan successfully handed over the Nagano Declaration to Mr. Harada Yoshiaki, the Environment Minister of Japan. Minister expressed his gratitude and his expectations to see the declaration transferred to action.
