As of 11 May 2023, Tokorozawa City become a member of
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. In line with this affiliation, a membership handover ceremony was held at Tokorozawa City Hall on 11 May 2023, where Mr. Takemoto, Chair of ICLEI Japan handed over the membership certificate to
Mayor Masato Fujimoto.Tokorozawa City is also a member of the
Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM). Tokorozawa has already had opportunities for interaction as a member of the ICLEI network, including participating in numerous side events at the UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP27) held in November 2022. Because of this connection, Tokorozawa City has officially become a part of ICLEI.
Tokorozawa City has located approximately 30 kilometers from the central Tokyo, and is characterised by its convenient transport links. It is also known for its rich natural environment, including the Sayama Hills, Sayama Lake, and Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park.
By partnering with Tokorozawa City, it is hoped that Japanese best pratices will be further spread around the world.
