Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Saitama City participated in a collaborative seminar with Kuala Lumpur City
On 8 August, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and Saitama City participated in the hybrid seminar ‘High-level Talks on City-to-City Collaboration towards Zero Carbon Kuala Lumpur 2023’, co-organised by Kuala Lumpur City, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo delivered a video message in her welcome address, and expressed her expectations for the three cities to work together as partners towards realising a decarbonised society. A TMG official also participated online and shared the latest initiatives (e.g. amendment of the Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinances) towards the realisation of the ‘2030 Carbon Half’.
Shimizu Hayato, Mayor of Saitama City attended on-site to introduce Saitama City’s initiatives on Smart Home Community and mobility and expressed his expectation for deepening this city-to-city collaboration and further promoting each other’s initiatives towards the realization of a decarbonised society. Mayor Shimizu and his officials also paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Kamarulzaman, inspected decarbonisation initiatives in Kuala Lumpur City and exchanged opinions with relevant organisations.
TMG and Saitama City will continue to contribute to global decarbonisation through cooperation with Kuala Lumpur City.
