Urban Biodiversity International Forum
Cities play a major role in addressing global environmental and development challenges, such as declining ecological diversity and climate change. The 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and Action Plan, endorsing the historic role of cities and local governments. On this basis, in the run-up to COP16, ICLEI, in collaboration with a several partners and initiatives organised the Urban Biodiversity International Forum and the Resilient City China Symposium and related thematic trainings in Kunming City, China.
Midori Sugino, Deputy Mayor of Nagoya City attended the Urban Biodiversity International Forum
Nagoya City participated in the Urban Biodiversity International Forum and the Resilient City China Symposium held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, on 8-9 November.
At the Urban Biodiversity International Forum on 8 November, Deputy Mayor Sugino took the stage to present Nagoya City’s efforts to realise Nature Positive, including the promotion of OECM (Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures) registration and initiatives to improve biodiversity in the city’s centre area. In addition, Nagoya’s green infrastructure initiatives were presented at the Resilient City China Symposium on 9 November.
During the sessions, the delegation also met and exchanged views with the cities of Kunming and Changchun respectively.
