[Kyoto/ Tokyo] Participated at the British Embassy webinar ‘Future Challenges in Japanese Energy’: Where we should be heading as a local government based on the experience of C40, Japanese and British cities’
A webinar hosted by the British Embassy on 23 March 2022, with a range of speakers from the UK and Japan, focused on local governments’ actions in the context of energy challenges.
After an opening address by the British Ambassador, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, and Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa promoted their initiatives by video messages.
The panel discussion was moderated by Togo Uchida, Executive Director of ICLEI Japan, and included discussions on local government initiatives and energy challenges, including Kyoto, the first city in Japan to join the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA), and Nottingham, which has committed itself to carbon neutrality by 2028.
Through the webinar, we were also able to get an insight into the unique attempts of Japanese local governments to continue partnerships to solve global problems locally, not only through decarbonization but also based on traditional culture and living in harmony with nature.
