ICLEI Japan member local governments endorse the LGMA COP29 Joint Position
On 20 November, in conjunction with the third Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change, the final list of endorsers of the LGMA COP29 Joint Position, a request from local governments for COP29 negotiations, was released.
Minna Arve, Mayor of Turku City, Finland, and ICLEI First Vice President, addressed the Ministerial Meeting on behalf of cities and regions around the world and reiterated the three demands of the LGMA COP29 Joint Position.
- Accelerate inclusive, multilevel, gender-responsive, and cooperative action, through new Nationally Determined Contributions developed in partnership with local and other subnational governments.
- Finance sustainable urbanization and climate action at all levels.
- Align the climate, nature, pollution, and sustainable development agendas.
Eight member local governments from ICLEI Japan- Iida City, Itabashi City, Kobe City, Kyoto City, Saitama City, Toyama City, Hiroshima City, and Yokohama City – have endorsed this LGMA joint position.
