The 13th inductees of the ‘Earth Hall of Fame KYOTO’ have been selected

The ‘Earth Hall of Fame KYOTO Management Council and the Earth Forum Kyoto organise the ‘Earth Hall of Fame KYOTO’ award ceremony to honor those who have made significant contributions to the conservation of the global environment in the world, and an international symposium is held with the inductees and others.

We, ICLEI Japan are pleased to announce that the following inductees have been selected for the 13th Earth Hall of Fame KYOTO. The award ceremony will be held at the Kyoto International Conference Hall on 14 November 2022.

The 13th Inductees

Johan Rockström (Born in 1965), Sweden

Director of the Postdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
Johan Rockström is an internationally recognized scientist in global sustainability issues, who advocates the concept of the ‘(Planetary Boundaries), the limits of the range within which humans can survive’. And, contribute to groundbreaking academic research that contributes to solving global environmental problems.

Murakami Kazue (Born in 1940), Japan

Dentist/ Representative of the Association for the Cooperation and Rural Self-Support in West Africa (CARA), NGO organisation
In rural areas of West Africa, suffering from desertification, disease, and poverty, there has been a continuous practice of activities (public health, environmental conservation, educational activities, etc.) that support the local community. The project is a global initiative that aims to create a sustainable society that balances the local environment and people's livelihoods on a local level.

NISHIOKA SHUZO (Born in 1939), Japan

Senior Research Advisor of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES)
Promoting the Japanese global environmental research (mainly in the climate change sector) through 30 years of activities at the IPCC, UNEP, and other organizations, and contributing to building the science-based policymaking in Japan and abroad, including in Asian countries, through the operation of the ‘International Research Network for Low Carbon Society (LCS-RNet) Initiative’, proposed by Japan at the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit.
