Kawasaki City Participates in the Yeoncheon Global Forum on Peace with Nature
Local Governments Unite Under the Theme of “Solution for local governments to achieve peaceful coexistence with nature”
On November 23–24, 2025, the Yeoncheon Global Forum on Peace with Nature was held in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, Republic of Korea.
The forum brought together around 100 participants from across the world — including representatives from Japan, Germany, South Africa, and Singapore, as well as members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, UNESCO, Korean local governments, researchers, and civil society organizations.
Discussions centered on “the role of local governments in achieving harmony with nature and building peace.”
Kawasaki City Showcases Its Initiatives on Urban Greening and Citizen Collaboration
During the session titled “Peri-urban and urban green networks, connectivity, and citizen well-being” on the first day, Mr. Shojiro Saka, Manager of Greenery and Tama River Project Promotion, Construction and Greenery Development Bureau, Kawasaki City, delivered a presentation highlighting the city’s efforts in urban greening through collaboration among citizens, businesses, and the local government.
He also introduced the “Green KAWASAKI Declaration,” announced in April 2025, which outlines the city’s vision for promoting a greener and more sustainable urban environment.
In the following panel discussion, Mr. Saka shared Kawasaki City’s challenges and achievements, including efforts to expand protected natural areas and develop urban green networks through partnerships with the private sector.
The session provided an opportunity for active dialogue and knowledge exchange among local government representatives from different countries, reaffirming the importance of international cooperation and mutual learning in advancing sustainable and peaceful communities.
