G7 Roundtable Meeting on Subnational Climate Actions

On 5-6 October, the G7 government representatives convened the online G7 Roundtable on Subnational Climate Actions. The roundtable was organised by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), in collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), and Urban7 (U7).

The roundtable brought together policymakers from environment and urban ministries of G7 member countries to discuss national policies and international cooperation for subnational climate action. During the roundtable, information was shared on national government support measures for local governments and international cooperation for non-G7 local governments. Representatives of the U7 also participated, discussing the promotion of public-private partnership, urban development using climate change mainstreaming and digital transformation, and opportunities for coordinated support for local government assistance outside the G7.
