Sado City disseminates its SDG initiatives on the international stage
In July 2024, Sado City presented its Voluntary Local Government Review (VLR) report at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The VLR, an international report on Sado City’s SDG activities and progress, was officially accepted by the UN and subsequently published on its website.
On 23 July, Sado City also participated in the 16th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP) 2024, organized by IGES and co-organized by ICLEI Japan. At this forum, Sado City shared its initiative ‘Towards the realization of a sustainable island, Sado: creating local SDGs’, under the theme ‘Local Government-Led Pathways to Resilient Society: Leveraging the CES Approach’.
In addition, the Sado Island Gold Mines was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2024, recognizing its gold production system based on Japan’s unique traditional handicrafts during the Edo period.
